This men’s, new old stock Venus dress watch has an unusual sector dial in a slim, unibloc steel case. Model reference 57 63 185.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch came from a family jewellers who changed which watch brands they sold in 1975, and we bought the remaining stock from them 50 years later! It may be older than 1975, but it will not be newer and it was available to buy in 1975. Venus were founded in 1902, and are probably more famous for their chronograph movements than anything else. The Venus 175 for example was a column wheel chronograph that could be found in watches from brands like Breitling.
CONDITION
This watch is New Old Stock (NOS), and as such has never been sold and has probably only been worn for our photography. There may be small marks from being stored, but otherwise the condition is as good as you are likely to find. The shop price tag is still attached, and back in 1975 this was £36.00. A unibloc case is simply a one piece case that means you have to remove the movement via the crystal for servicing. That movement is exactly the one you would hope to find in a slim, two handed watch – the Peseux 7001 (even if it is branded Venus). This is in 21 jewel version specification, rather than the standard 17 jewel version, and those extra jewels are all shock protected too. The dial is unusual in having the time sectors marked by blocks rather than numbers or lines. The leather strap is the original and signed Venus, and it retains the signed buckle too. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement, crown, buckle and strap.
