This Venus watch has the automatic 7750 chronograph movement, and a cheeky Turkish day date.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Venus were formed in 1930, and are predominantly known as a movement maker. But the movement in this watch was launched by Valjoux in 1973 so this watch has to be after that. The movement is still in production, and with the lack of other information (Venus as a search term is very broad) we look at the styling. These TV dials were popular in the mid 1970’s, as were the colours, so we estimate this was made circa 1975. If you have any more information on this company please do contact us.

For a change let’s start with the day date complication. This is unusual in that the abbreviated days are in Turkish.

If you are childish though, and that does include us, you will just set the day to Friday as we have done for the photos. Both day and date have quick set ability, so this is no chore at all. The Valjoux 7750 is a movement used by dozens of manufacturers, making spares and servicing more reasonable than most chronographs. It is not the thinnest calibre, so the watches powered by the 7750 tend to be a little chunky. The colourful dial is good design – see how the subdials are the same shape as the dial and crystal, and all the chronograph hands are orange. Even more subtle is the tritium hour markers are also square. The case is all stainless steel, and wears well. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
