A Swiss Sorna pendant watch with deep red dial, set in a chromed case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the the product dates of the Ronda Swiss movement we estimate this watch to being made circa 1975. This was also the period that Sorna were at their sales height.
CONDITION
The watch has survived very well. Pendant watches tend to fall into two categories – worn a lot and have damaged cases (presumably from swinging on a necklace and hitting objects) or very good condition from not being worn much. This example falls into the latter category.
The red dial is very nice, and the video shows how this changes with light in a very attractive manner. The white hands provide a strong contrast, making this easy to read despite the smaller dial size. The bark finish, banjo shaped case is very much of the time, and doesn’t show any damage apart from a very small scratch to the case edge near 11. The jeweled movement winds and sets easily, and keeps reasonable time – these were never designed to be high end horology, but as an attractive and somewhat practical way to keep the time. As this example has 12 at the top of the dial, it could also be worn on a bracelet or hung up in a car or office.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity, but without a chain.
