This sterling silver Lanco is New Old Stock (NOS), with matching hang tag still attached. Model reference 24407.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the import hallmark on the inside of the case back we can accurately date this watch to assayed in 1975. The watch could have been made earlier than this, but it is unlikely. The watch is assayed at 0.925, which is sterling standard and higher than continental silver (usually 0.800 purity)
CONDITION
Lanco is an abbreviation of Langendorf Watch Company, who were one of the World’s largest watch producers in their earlier years. In 1965 they joined Société Suisse pour l’Industrie Horlogère SA (SSIH), and this is where an unexpected link to this watch happens. Omega was also a member of SSIH, and the case for this Lanco watch is stamped OWC for Omega Watch Company. Omega were making their Jeux d’Argent silver watches at the same point in time, so it makes sense that Lanco looked in house for a case supplier. Inside the case is a FHF 69-21 manual wind movement, which is all working well. The size and shape of the watch is unusual, and the leather strap is sized for a man’s wrist, but this is could now be considered unisex. The case has light storage marks – silver is a soft metal and these are normal. The leather strap is the original, and the hang tag has a matching model number to the inside of the case back so could not have been paired later.
