An unusual Edox automatic divers watch, which we are not sure if it is by design or age!
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Edox watches of this period do not have serial numbers on the case back or movements, but from the production dates of the movement we can date this watch to being made circa 1975.
CONDITION
Edox have been producing watches since 1884, and they are rarely dull. Their history website shows lots of interesting models, and several firsts. But one thing they almost all have in common is the fact they are not common – you rarely see the same vintage watch twice, and this does make researching their older models harder. So let’s take a look at this watch. The dial is an olive green, which looks black in many lights. We initially thought this maybe was patina of age, with the black fading, but not only is the effect too even to be patina but Edox have also just released a new Sky Diver model – with olive green dial! Maybe they images in the archives which we don’t have access too?
The watch here pairs the olive green with a blue and silver no click bi directional bezel and a lot of lume on the hands and hour markers. The case is chrome plated with a stainless steel back, and te worst of the plating loss is on the rear of the lugs and therefore not visible when the watch is being worn. But the photography studio lighting does show the rest of the plating at the very worst. The video is probably a more realistic representation of the how the wear looks in the real world. The movement is an unbranded FE4611 calibre automatic, with quickset date, which is all working well. The suede leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred.
