A very good looking Limit Chronograph, with a Valjoux manual wind movement, and nice blue dial.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
There is no way to accurately date Limit watches to the best of our knowledge, They were founded in 1912, but have stayed at the more affordable end of watchmaking during their entire history, using off the shelf movements (ebauches) and designing the watches to be attractive but affordable. However we do know the ebauche that is used in this watch was made between 1969 and 1978, so we have picked a middle year.
CONDITION
If you see a chronogrpah from this era with two registers and a date window, the likelihood is that is it powered by the Valjoux 7734. It was widely used, not only by Limit but also Heuer, Breitling and Tudor, but their watches will be significantly more expensive. It is quite a robust movement, hand wound and with a 45 minute counter. The date can be semi quick set. The movement is running nicely, but when you reset the chronogrpah it resets consistently to 58 rather than 60. Given we have tried to keep the cost down on this watch we have not had this fixed, but it is an easy thing to live with as shown in the video. The dial is very nice and in great condition. The case is 10 micron rose gold plated, and the contrast against the blue dial is very pleasant – you rarely see rose gold plated watches, so that alone is a nice thing to have. The case does show some marks, and the pushers also have some wear. The case back looks to have been polished – maybe there was an engraving that has sadly been removed. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
