One of the world’s finest brands, Girard-Perregaux were at the forefront of developing quartz watches in the early 70’s and this is a rare ladies version.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Girard-Perregaux launched their 350 series quartz movements in 1971, with the nylon gear. The 700 series was launched in 1975’s Laureato model, so we figure the 641 variants were made in between – not only does the number system make sense, but the technology looks to be between the 350 and 700 movements too.
CONDITION
The design of this watch is unusually large. Quartz technology had not yet got to the point of being slimmed down, which makes the dial very legible. The stainless steel bracelet is in good condition and is signed on the clasp. The original crown also features the GP logo. The matte blue dial is in great condition and reacts well will light, turning an almost slate colour in some lights, and the in house movement is working well. The glass does has a light scratch in the bottom right corner. Finding an early ladies quartz watch is rare, as they were very expensive when new and most have now been stripped for spares to fit to the more valuable men’s models.
