The White Shadow was a slimmer, dressier version of the Universal Geneve Polerouter, and is also half the price. Model reference 867103.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We would normally use the serial number on the case back, but we only have the numbers up to 1967. However we do know the movement in this watch was first launched in 1973, so we think this watch was made circa 1973.
CONDITION
When the no date White Shadow was launched in 1972 it had the thinnest automatic movement made, and it held this record until 2003 when Piaget beat it. The 2-67 calibre in this watch is a touch thicker due to the calendar, but hardly chunky. This is possible becasue Universal Geneve developed the earliest microrotor automatic movements and this was a development of them – in making a smaller rotor incorporated into the movement design you avoid bolting on the automatic mechanism onto the back of the movement, allowing for a slimmer profile. By using the C-Case design you also avoid the fragility of some ultra thin watches around the lugs, so it is is a clever design. The slim acrylic glass has some light crazing visible in certain lights and angles, but we wanted to keep as much of the originality as possible. The fume dial is very attractive and complimented by the choice of strap. The leather strap is used, chosen specifically for this watch as it just dressed it down beautifully, but it could be swapped for a new strap in a different colour if preferred.
