This Sicura is probably the most distinctive watch you will see today, and it is in wonderful condition. Completely original!
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We have found an advert for this watch from the very first Argos catalogue from 1973. There is was described as a woman’s watch, and had an RRP (Recommended Retail Price) of £11.25. Given inflation that would be around £141 today. We know that Sicura changed their logo in 1972, and this watch has the newer logo, so we are happy to say that the watch was made circa 1973.
CONDITION
The watch is in fabulous condition. Looking at the original brochure, this watch may also be on the original suede effect strap which looks barely worn. Some would describe this as NOS, but there is a small ding on the top right corner. It’s small, but it is there. There is a chance that the watch was never sold because of this.
This is a large watch to wear, so we were surprised to see it advertised as a women’s watch. We’d say it was definitely unisex. The sky blue crystal is not something we have seen before. Inside the trapezoid case, which is slightly wider at the top of the case than the bottom, is a 17 jewel calibre 5021 manual wind movement, which has been checked for accuracy and runs nicely.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
