In great condition, this unusual covered dial Longines crosses over from horology to jewellery.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From a combination of the serial number, styling and movement production dates we estimate this watch to being made circa 1973.
CONDITION
To most people you will appear to be wearing a bracelet, but if you need to know the time you can lift the hinged dial cover to reveal the watch face. This adds theatre to the otherwise everyday function, but as this was made by Longines it is not just a novelty, it is built well . The manual wind movement has seventeen jewels and is marked Longines caliber 510, Despite the small size, it is nicely finished and at a time where many Swiss manufacturers were cutting costs this is nice to see. The integrated bark bracelet is practically flawless in appearance, and the dial is also finished with the same texture. Overall this watch is difficult to fault. You rarely find covered dial watches, and when you do they are often by very premium brands like Jaeger-Lecoultre or Corum, where the cost is many multiples of this.
