With a Valjoux 7733 movement, this J K branded chronograph is very similar to the Porsche Design watches of the same period, but cheaper.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The movement was in production between 1969 and 1978, and this is the middle revision made between 1971 and 1974. With the lack of further evidence we can say this was was made circa 1973.
CONDITION
We have not been able to find out anything about J K as a watch brand, but this is not as important as you might think. Yes, if this was any large brand that used the same movement it would be easier to research, but also it would cost more for what is essentially the same watch. Look at Breitling and Heuer prices for the comparison. The Valjoux 7733 was a development from the Venus 188, and has proved to be a popular and reliable calibre. It is all working sweetly. The case has an unusual finish, not PVD coated and not dissimilar to the Citizen bullhead chronograph of the same era. The case does have a dink on the non crown side of the watch, but it is at the bottom and not visible on the wrist. The pump pushers are a nice look, and the glass is flat and scratch and chip free. The dial has a telemeter bezel and over printed subdials, and applied hour markers. The orange hands are the real highlight though, and perfect for period. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
