HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Stingray model line started in 1966, but this model of the Stingray S only appeared in the 1972/3 catalogue (pictured). It was the first Stingray S model to have an external bezel.
CONDITION
This divers watch has a natural patina that only makes the watch look better. The once black dial has evenly faded to a dark grey, and the lume has equally got the patina of age. This is some peoples books is far better than a redial and new hands, our books included. The red seconds hand matches the r Roamer logo at twelve. The external bezel is a friction fit, so can be adjusted either direction without clicks. The case is quite a chunky stainless steel item, and has a semi recessed crown at 4. The crown has a logo we do not recognise – if you can help please do contact us. The case is unpolished, as is the bracelet. The automatic movement is Roamers own in house design, calibre MST 471. This has 28 jewels and semi quick set date, and is working well.
EDIT – a customer did recognise the crown logo – it is from a Delbana watch. Many thanks to them for letting us know.
While this watch has absolutely nothing to do with the C3 Corvette that was also called Stingray and made around the same time, can you think of a better watch to wear if you own a Stingray car?
