This Certina Argonaut 220 skin diver is an interesting watch.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the serial number on the case back we can accurately date this watch to being made in 1972, if the case back is original to the watch.
CONDITION
Rare is an overused word in vintage watch circles, but we think this qualifies. We have not seen another, and can not find a picture of another. The automatic movement is Certina calibre 25-65, a nicely finished 27 jewel movement that can also be hand wound via the screw down crown. The crown is not signed, and there is a chance this is not a Certina case – it could be a genuine movement and Argonaut 220 dial put in a different case, with a bezel that just happens to be the perfect shade (and a very unusual shade). It could also have been a prototype, but without any more information we can not be sure. The dilemma is discussed in the video, so please do watch that. The condition is excellent, and the look of the watch is also likely to appeal to many people. The leather strap came on the watch and has some age to it. It looks unworn, but is not marked Certina so may be a replacement. It could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
