This Avia Swissonic has a cool electronic movement, as well as a very nice brown dial with orange second hand.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of this movement, 1970 to 1975, we have picked a mid point. We can not be more accurate in this instance.
CONDITION
The ESA 9154 was an interesting movement. The thirteen jewel movement uses a transistorized switch balance, and was killed off by the cheaper quartz technology. So you have half the movement electronically controlled, and half mechanical. What this means is that you have a sweep second hand on the watch like a mechanical watch, but no need to wind it up. You will have to change the battery periodically, and they have thought about this by providing a battery hatch, stamped with numbers 1-12 which you align to show which month you changed the cell. The bracelet is not stamped with any makers marks, but suits the watch and could be swapped for a brown leather strap to match the dial. The stainless steel case does have a few marks, but nothing serious. The dial is the possible the part of this watch that will sell it even more than the interesting movement, in this fume / tobacco brown colour. The white writing for Avia Swissonic is crisp and the orange second hand finishes the period look perfectly.
