Produced for surfers and, bizarrely, the Basel Fire Service, this Claro Beach Star is the yellow version and has its original strap.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Produced between 1969 and 1973, the Beach Star had a limited life but no serial numbers were recorded. So we have chosen the middle year of the production period.
The watch is completely original. It has been worn, but we have cleaned the strap and noryl-fibre case as best we can with our ultrasonic bath. The Baumgartner 582 CLDD movement is working well, and the case has no major damage. We have polished the acrylic glass to remove any light scratches. The dial is good, with lume that still glows between 0 and 5, then every alternate 5 minute period. The orange hands are good, with just a small spot of dirt on the minute hand lume section. The strap retains the original clip at the end, which is a great way of stopping the strap tail sticking out and should be fitted to more watches. The Claro name has been reborn and the website for the new company, with a little more history of the brand and watch, can be found here. The square design does make this watch wear larger that the dimension suggest.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
