A ladies Zarja watch designed to be worn on a necklace, in a full hunter style shield shaped case.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Zarja watches were formed in 1949 exclusively to make ladies watches in the Soviet Union.  The movement fitted to this watch, Calibre 2009B, was produced circa 1970 and we have no reason to disagree with this date of production.

CONDITION

The watch has two strong positives going for it.  The 21 jewel movement, manually winding and with centre seconds, is working well.  The second it the case.  It is designed to resemble a full hunter pocket watch, but with just the front hinged (on a full hunter pocket watch both front and back would be hinged).  On the pocket watch it had the cover to protect the delicate watch whilst the owner was hunting, but on this pendant watch the machine cut patterned lid is more for decoration.  The hinge is opened by a button near where the chain would loop through, and the watch is deliberately up side down.  This is so the wearer, when they tilt the watch up to read the time, sees the dial in the correct position.  The purple dial is very clean, and has the very cool CCCP mark showing this was for use within the Soviet Union and not intended for export.  The condition is fantastic, and even the movement dust cover is still in place.
