This men’s Sekonda De Luxe features a clearly military inspired dial, the the lume has faded to that lovely cream colour.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is impossible to date Sekonda watches of this period accurately without inscriptions or paperwork. However, it can not be before 1966, as that was the first time the Sekonda name came about in order to sell USSR watches in the UK. The movement in this watch is an earlier Wostock 2209, which was heavily based on a Zenith 135, and later Sekonda watches had the completely different Poljot and later still Luch 2209 – the calibre number is the same but the watch is very different. So this is early Sekonda, but we can not say it is exactly from 1970.
CONDITION
The manual wind movement is working well and keeping time to within a minute a day, and the chromed case doesn’t have too many marks. But the dial is the best feature. It is all original, and the lume has developed over time a lovely cream colour. The hands are original too, and haven’t lost any lume. The acrylic glass is new, and the green NATO style (yes we know the Soviet Union wasn’t part of NATO) strap is new, chosen to compliment the military looks of the watch but can easily be swapped for a different style of strap if preferred. Sekonda watches in this condition are not easy to find, and this one just has the right look.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
