A very original stainless steel Roamer Rockshell Mark 1 automatic in great condition and running nicely. Model reference 471-1120609
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The Mark 2 Rockshell was launched in 1971, but we are unclear if both watches were made at the same time. The in house MST 471 movement was made between 1965 and 1973, and the styling is typical for 1970, so given the evidence we have opted for circa 1970. CONDITION
This chunky watch is both distinctive and attractive, with a benefit of a very good blue dial. The white hands and markers make for an excellent contrast, making the design very legible. The movement is running well and has been protected by the innovative Roamer case system, which is a sealed capsule to keep everything clean and dry. It also features the semi quick set date, changed by going to midnight – 21:00 – midnight to advance the date. The recessed crown is signed with the Roamer r, as is the crystal in the centre (only visible if you really look for it). The bracelet is also signed on the clasp for both Roamer and the Rockshell sub brand. The strap is long but has been shortened a little, but extenders like these can be had if needed. Neither the watch nor the bracelet has been polished – this was bought alongside a ladies version from the original family, and apparently the men’s watch was not worn much. That is quite clear to see by the condition.
