An Omega stopwatch at a time where they were genuinely useful devices, and now make excellent additions to collections.

We can put this at circa 1970, judging by the materials and styling used.  English referee Jack Taylor used an Omega stop watch in the 1974 World Cup Final, which has a similar black finish.  We believe the movement was first used in 1968.

The movement is badged Omega 8000, but the maltese cross under the balance shows it was made for Omega by Lemania, as were most of Omega’s stopwatches.  While many stopwatches had decimal dials shows 1/100ths of a minute, which is mainly used for improving the speed of manufacturing processes, this one is a more conventional 60 seconds and 30 minute timer, so may have been used for sports.  You start, stop and reset the stopwatch all by pressing the crown in at 60, and the watch is powered by winding the same crown.  The case has a grey, high grip finish and a screw on case back (where most were clip on.)   The case back is shiny, possibly from sliding within a drawer, and has the engraving AF11138 – although we don’t know what that related to (we do not think it is military or the BBC, as their stopwatches are more easily researched and worth more despite being identical inside).  Overall the condition of this Omega stopwatch is very good though, and of course it is fully working.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
