This distinctive Movado Kingmatic Surf 360 is in New Old Stock (NOS) condition, as is the Zenith signed stainless bracelet.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The high beat Movado 405 movement was only made between 1968 and 1972, so we have said c1970 as a likely production date. Furthermore the Zenith-Movado-Mondia group was founded in 1969, and whereas a lot of the models were then co branded, this is a Movado on a Zenith bracelet. This is a clue that this combination was made close to the start of the relationship.
CONDITION
The watch is almost perfect. There is one tiny chip on the crystal near 2, but that is the only blemish. The bracelet is high quality, and worth a lot on its own. The 36.6 kbph movement (hence the 360 moniker) has quick set date feature, adjusted by the second position on the signed crown. The day wheel is in German, and doesn’t quick set but does change crisply. We are not sure if the bezel is solid gold or gold plated. The graduated dial is beautiful and clean, and all the tritium lume plots are in place and the hands are perfect. The brushed stainless steel case is again in wonderful condition. The solid stainless steel Zenith signed bracelet is high quality, full length and the clasp is both unmarked and the black paint is undamaged.
UPDATE: We have now managed to open the watch case and have added photos of the movement, inside case back and retook photos of the case back that now shows very minor tool marks. It was very tricky to open, but we have changed the seal and greased it to ensure the watch will open again easily next time.
