This interesting Mondia Moonstone watch has a great colour scheme on the dial, along with unique hands.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
In the late sixties and early seventies the race to space was the coolest thing going, and the marketing men quickly caught on. Many products starting linking themselves with space, particularly the moon landing in 1969, and in November 1969 the brand name Moonstone was registered by Zenith Group. Presumably the name was registered just before the Moonstone watch was launched. This theory is also backed up by the production dates of the movement.
CONDITION
In 1969 Mondia joined Movado and Zenith in the same group of watchmakers, and this gave the company the opportunity to make some more unusual watches. This Mondia Moonstone watch has been difficult to research, as there are plenty of Moonstone watches about but they all seem to be in fibreglass cases. This means this watch is either very rare, a prototype or the movement and dial has been recased into this brushed gold plated case. The case is not stamped Mondia anywhere, and neither is the crown. We have to just say we don’t know on this one. The hand winding movement is stamped Mondia and is a AS1950-1951, which is running well. The condition of the case, dial and those cool hands is all very good, and while the strap is old it also looks unused. Again, this is not branded so could be either paired for a prototype or matched up later.
