This manual wind men’s Longines has a square case, so these wear larger than the same width round cases. Model reference 8392.2.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Longines stopped using sequential movements in 1968, as they started using movements from Record for a lot of their hand winding watches. However the 280 series were one of the last hand winding in house Longines made for while, and this 285 was the top of the range. This range was launched in 1970, which fits the styling too, so we are estimating this watch was made circa 1970.
CONDITION
A lot of collectors who find some vintage watches too small like square cased watches, as they do cover more wrist than the same size round case. They are still comfortable though without getting stuck on shirt cuffs. And when you have a brand like Longines as well, it just becomes more desirable. As mentioned, this has the caliber 285 hand wound movement which has both a calendar function (with semi quick set) and micro adjustment on the regulator for fine tuning. This 17 jewel movement is clean, and all working well. The dial is also in good condition, and the case has thicker than average gold plating (20 microns, where ten is normal). The signed crown is still in place. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. A new, genuine, gold plated Longines buckle has been fitted to compliment this vintage watch.
This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box, and our Certificate of Authenticity.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon. By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
