HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Sadly the dating information is scarce for Le Cheminant watches. However, using the movement production dates we can date this watch to being made circa 1970.
CONDITION
The 25 jewel ETA 2782 movement is all running well and features a quick set date, which is always an attractive feature in a watch that might be worn in rotation with others. The silver dial has quite a deep dish to it, and it is in better than average condition although does have sliht staining near 3. The case of this Skymaster is gold filled, not gold plated. Gold filled is a thicker standard than goldplate, which explains why this case does show wear but doesn’t show the base metal underneath, not even on the lug tips. This is typical of Le Cheminant – if the movement can be had with 17 or 25 jewels, they normally choose the higher specification. Same principles with the case here. The movement does have a metal spacer, but still has some movement when setting the time. Both the acrylic crystal and the leather strap are new.
