A distinctive and original design from Jaquet-Girard – the video shows the textured dial to the best effect.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the movement, along with the styling, we estimate this watch was made circa 1970.
CONDITION
Jaquet-Girard were incorporated in April 1962, much to Girard-Perregaux’s disgust. Girard-Perregaux tried to sue under trademark infringement but ultimately lost, with the judge ruling that *****-Girard would not confuse consumers, but Girard-***** would have done.
The watch is a rare beast. The dial we will come onto later, but let’s start with the case. This unusual oval design. The sides are polished, and the bezel brushed. The design wears much like the Omega Constellation C Case – with a different bezel, crystal and dial it would be a C case design. The condition is superb, with just a pin mark on the bezel at 1 to report. The movement is a nice ETA 2782 automatic that has been recently serviced, and is running well – this includes the quick set date. The dial is a slate grey, but it has an unusual texture – maybe the best way to describe it is either arts and crafts, or shiny leather. We have never seen anything like it before. Despite that the hands are legible and easy to read. We doubt you will ever meet anyone else wearing the same watch.
This watch will be supplied with our Certificate of Authenticity.
