A slim pocket watch from Jaquet-Droz, which is unusual in having a date function.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the movement this watch has to be post 1968, and we are estimating this watch was made not too long after the movement was introduced.
CONDITION
Some early pocket watches had date features, but they tended to be the pointer type with a subdial. This Jaquet-Droz has the more familiar date window. The movement is a hand winding Peseux 7046, which is running well and has a semi quick set date (Midnight – 20.00 – midnight). The dial is very clean, and the hands straight. The case has just light marks, and the squared off bow has just the right stiffness – not worn loose to rattle in the pocket, nor too stiff. Jaquet-Droz have been making clocks, watches and automata since the 18th century, and are now part of the Swatch group. You can read their history here. They are still producing pocket watches today, and their latest is 18k gold cased and enamel dialed, so will be a lot more than this watch – about a hundred times more at £17,500!
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
