Sometimes referred to as the poor man’s Carrera (or incorrectly a pre Carrera), it is still a cool Heuer chronograph. Model reference 73325T.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Reference 73325T (the T suffix is for Tachymeter) was launched in 1970, and circa 1971 the movement used was slightly downgraded by using fewer polished parts. This watch has the earlier movement so has to have been made in either 1970 or 1971.
CONDITION
Heuer made some of the coolest watches of the 60’s and 70’s, and they were just about all chronographs. Carrera was the first ‘named’ sub brand, but there was also the Monaco, Silverstone, Monza and others, all linking to the innovative marketing Jack Heuer did with motor racing. Some of them were large and quite funky, but this model is a bit smaller and harks back to the reference 3647 Carrera – but without most of the price tag they attract.
The movement is a Valjoux 7733, which was widely used at the time and this is in 30 minute counter specification. It is all working well and resetting correctly via the pump pushers, which may be either new or replated at some point. The crown has lost the gold plate, but we have kept it on as it may be original. The rest of the case is 18k gold plated, and has the model and serial numbers correctly stamped between the lugs. The dial does look like it has been restored in the past, hence it being so clean for a 50+ year old watch. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. The watch is signed on the movement, dial and case.
