A good looking desk diver watch from Borea, who were part of the Camy group of watchmakers.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Borea were first registered in 1935, but from the movement production dates we estimate this was made circa 1970. Information is very thin on Borea, so if you know more then please do contact us.
CONDITION
This was never an expensive watch, but that doesn’t mean it is not a good looking watch! Yes, the case is chrome plated rather than stainless steel. Yes, the bezel is fixed, and the movement is a pin pallet, but we have several divers watches that have higher specification components but they all cost substantially more. Inside the case is a Baumgartner 866CCD movement, which does have 17 jewels and a calendar, and it is working well enough. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred. But the undoubted highlight is the dial and hands, with lots of tritium. The dial is exceptionally clean for a 50+ year old black dial, and the new acrylic crystal highlights this. The oversized hour hand hasn’t lost any lume, and the calendar wheel and tip of the second hand add just a pop of red. The lume shows brighter in the studio photo than in real life, but you can still see it is all even and original. The case does have some marks, most noticeable on the top right lug, and the stainless steel case back has witness marks where the watch has been worn on a NATO strap before.
