HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the movement we can date this watch to being made circa 1970. The Avia-Matic brand is registered to the company but with no date attached, and we have not been able to find period adverts featuring this model.
CONDITION
This Avia-Matic men’s vintage watch has a lot of positives. The size is great, and the condition is too. The dial is pretty clean and the little pop of red on the very three dimensional hour markers lifts the design a lot. The movement is a FHF705 seventeen jewel automatic, with quick set date, which is all working well. That is housed in a fairly chunky stainless steel case with screw down case back. While the bracelet is not stamped Avia, it is more than likely original – look how it fits to the case for a start. Neither the bracelet nor case has been polished, so condition is very good considering. The bracelet is also long, important with this design as you can’t really swap the bracelet for a leather strap given the design. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath.
