The microrotor was an interesting development of the automatic watch, allowing for a thinner movement, and this Intra-Matic has the Hamilton/Buren prized movement.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Buren registered the name Intra-Matic in 1964, and in 1966 Hamilton bought Buren. For the next few years Hamilton and Buren shared technology, as in this case, and some watches were made in Switzerland at the Buren facility, and some watches were built in the USA. From 1969 the US factory closed, and all production was switched to Switzerland. Given all of this, the markings on this watch and the fact that the Intra-Matic model doesn’t feature in Hamilton’s pre 1969 catalogues leads us to believe this example was made circa 1969.
This watch is a sleeper on the wrist. What we mean by this is that most people will dismiss the watch as ‘just another dress watch’, but those in the know will be impressed with the subtle choice of horological history. The case is 20m gold plated, and judging by the rich colour that is 18k gold. The dial is also gold coloured, and very good. The semi quickset date is working well, and the movement is running very well on the timegrapher. The strap and acrylic crystal is new, but we do want to fit a low dome crystal to be more slender.
This watch will be supplied with a presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
