A distinctive and rare watch from Guda in the divers style, in a lightweight plastic monocoque case.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Montres Guda were registered in Basel, Switzerland in January 1958, but very little seems to survive about the company. The styling of the hands and dial on this watch are very reminiscent of the Omega Dynamic of 1968, and the one piece case design in resin or plastic similar to the Tissot Sideral of 1969 and Rotary Campus of circa 1970. From these similar watches we have estimated a production date of circa 1969.
CONDITION
This watch has some great design. The one piece case was designed to keep everything waterproof, and the movement is removed via the glass. Given that the movement is running nicely, and the case is unmarked, we have decided not to strip this watch to see the movement – after all this is not high end horology, more of a fun design piece. The bullseye dial has strong lume on each hour marker, and the overall condition combined with the strong lume suggest this watch has lived most of its life in a drawer. The asymmetrical case is close to perfect, with the natural finish of how the material set visible on the back. It is currently on a woven one piece strap, but could be fitted with any 20mm strap you prefer (but not a bracelet – the harder metal would ruin the hidden lugs). The date has the semi quickset feature, and does sit a little low in the date window than perfect. The divers type bezel turns both ways without clicks, so would be unsuitable for proper diving. The whole watch, including the woven strap, weighs just 29 grams.
