One of the earlier Swiss made Elgin watches, this automatic has style.  Model reference 10567

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

The Elgin company in the USA ran from 1867 to about 1965, and then for a few years a local company cased swiss movements under the Elgin name.  The movement in this watch dates to circa 1965, but as this has the stylised  E Elgin logo that only came into being in 1968 we think this is from that year.  The logo does look like the Euro currency symbol €, but pre dates it by a few decades.

CONDITION

For once Swiss made is the less collectible watch, as Elgin collectors tend to prefer the earlier Illinois made watches.  But that allows for a cheaper watch for everyone else.  The movement is an AS 1703, which is a seventeen jewel automatic with semi quickset date.  It is all working well.  The case , made by S Graber of Switzerland, is 20 micron gold plated, and while it has some marks overall it is fine.  The crown works perfectly but does have some knocks.  However the biggest plus of this Elgin is the dial, which is clean and nicely designed – there is a real balance to the watch that is helped with the faded tritium lume dots and hands.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
