This Favre-Leuba men’s vintage Sea Chief watch has a 35mm stainless steel case and a vivid blue dial.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
From the production dates of the movement we can date this watch to being made circa 1967. The automatic ‘Twin Power’ movement was launched in 1968, but the manual wind version would likely still be available.
CONDITION
The history of Favre-Leuba goes back to 1737, making them one of the very oldest watchmakers still going. You can read about their past here. More recently there have been an influx of cheap ‘Favre-Leuba’ watches, predominantly from India, that are best franken watches made up from several parts and at worst just fakes. Be wary of these.
This watch is an original, correct watch. The caseback is signed, and the movement is the in house calibre 253. This is a development from the 251 launched in 1962, and the main feature is the twin winding barrels. This not only gives a longer power reserve, but also allows a more even release of power whilst also allowing a thin movement profile. The dial is royal blue with very prominent hour markers rising from the dial. The chapter ring in white is a nice visual touch. The leather strap matches the dial well, but the look could be toned down with a black strap if preferred.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
