This Technos Sky Ace is very clean, and a decent size for a vintage watch. If this was the Sky Diver it would be 10 times more, at least.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
There is no Technos database of serial numbers that we know of, but we have identified the movement and from that information we think this watch was made circa 1965.
CONDITION
The 1960’s was a time when everyone was looking skyward. By the end of the decade of that saw the launch of the Boeing 747, Concorde and of course the Saturn V rocket, everyone wanted to be a Sky Ace, so you can see why this name was chosen. Technos was founded in 1924 in Switzerland, and this is one of the Swiss versions (latterly the watches have been made in Japan and Brazil). The Sky Diver watches are the companies high point, but there isn’t currently one of those on Chrono24 for less than £2,000 (correct at time of press). However, that just makes the Sky Ace look incredible value, and a possible sleeper.
This example has the original countersunk signed crown, and a very clean dial, The case is gold filled, with just some wear on the lug tips which can be expected. The acrylic crystal has been polished to remove almost all scratches, and the leather strap is new with a gold tone buckle fitted. The movement is an ETA automatic, calibre 2638R, and has a good specification that includes ball bearing rotor, 21,6oo bph and a semi quickset date. It is running nicely. The case is larger than average for the time, which does appeal to the modern market.
