HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
We can not date Technos watches with 100% accuracy, but the movement used in this watch was first launched in 1965, so it can not be older than this.
CONDITION
Stone dials are rare, mainly because they are expensive to produce. They are normally associated with brands like Piaget or Vacheron Constantin, but to find one at this price is unusual. But it is also quality elsewhere too that impresses. Instead of gold plating, this uses a 14k gold filled case. Gold filled cases are far less likely to show wear, and that is why the case back is gold filled too whereas on plated watches the case back is usually stainless steel – the plating would wear off too quickly. Inside is a Technos branded Unitas 6365N 17 jewel hand winding movement, which is not only nicely decorated with Côtes de Genève striping but also has the train jewels set in chantons – a very high end feature indeed. The size is truly unisex – larger than most ladies watches and smaller than most men’s. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or material if preferred. The watch is signed on the dial, case, movement and crown.
