HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Oris watches of this era do not have serial numbers, so are not possible to date with 100% accuracy. However the movement used was not launched until 1965, so it can not be older than 1965, and the logo used is fitting with that date too. The Oris Super branding was first registered in 1963.
CONDITION
A new Oris Artlier would cost £1,600. It is a little larger, and has an automatic movement, but it is the closest thing in the modern lineup to the Oris Super we have here. Condition of this watch is like new, with the very lightest of storage marks. The rear of the lugs has some tarnish to the gold plating – easily cleaned off but a great sign the watch hasn’t been worn. The seventeen jewel, manual wind movement is an AS1950 and branded for Oris. It is running nicely. The calf leather strap is unworn and period, fitted with an unbranded but period gold plated buckle.
