A nice, clean Oris from the sixties with the period correct expanding strap.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It is not possible to date Oris watches from this period very accurately, as no serial numbers are present. But the styling, movement production dates and logo used all look to be mid 1960’s.
CONDITION
An Oris watch on the 1960’s was not the premium brand they are today, more something that someone who had a decent job would aspire to rather than the cheapest watches on the market. And they offered then (and now) good value for money. You have an in house, manual wind 17 jewel movement, with shock protection, set into a gold plated case that was all made in Switzerland. This example has no second hand, so is more a classic dress watch in that aspect. Normally these expanding bracelets are swapped for leather straps, but this is a better than average Speidal expanding bracelet that is in good condition, and the outside of the bracelet is 10K gold capped – much thicker than gold plating. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The dial is clean, with hour markers carved into the dial which does look good. The acrylic crystal is new, and there is not much to dislike about this watch at all.
