This Lady Elgin watch is in as good a condition as you will ever find, and with the original box.  Model reference 5051

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Elgin were formed in 1864, and the box states ‘over 100 years of fine watch making’.  The movement also dates from the mid sixties, and we also know that Elgin stated making watches in Switzerland in this time too.  Elgin in the original form closed in 1968, so we won’t be too far off in our 1965 estimation.

CONDITION

Lady Elgin were the upgraded models to the standard Elgin watches.  This watch appears to be unworn.  There just is not a mark anywhere to indicate that this watch was worn, which is a shame for the first owner but not for the next owner.  The movement is a Elgin 613 manual wind movement, heavily based on a FEF 2260 but with 21 jewels and some set in chantons instead of the standard 17 jewels. The dial is a shade of jade green that appears black in most lights, but we have taken a photo without the glass to show the actual colouring, and the dial has gilt lettering and applied markers.  The box is like new too, with strong hinges.  The bracelet is unmarked.  This could go straight into a museum, or onto your wrist.

This watch will be supplied with the original presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of birthyearwatches.com and should not be used without permission.
