With an integrated mesh bracelet and a nice manual wind movement, this Ulysse Nardin is a nice watch. Model reference AX 8130.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Ulysse Nardin watches are hard to date, but the movement in this watch was launched in 1959 and this is the second generation of it, with a slightly faster beat rate (21,600 vs 18,000). Given that we are assuming a date of circa 1965 for this watch.
CONDITION
Ulysse Nardin watches today start from around £5,000, but back in the sixties they were still premium – just not as premium as they are now. This watch is all stainless steel, including the integrated bracelet. The dial has an almost arts and crafts hammer pattern to it, which does bounce light off it nicely. The movement is wound via the signed crown, and is a beautifully finished ETA 2510 (not that Ulysse Nardin would want you to know that – they machines the ETA markings off the base plate!) But the bridges have Côtes de Genève striping on them, and the crown wheels have spiraling finishes, that would only really impress the watchmaker as the wearer can’t see them normally. It is also double shock protected. The bracelet is full length, with a signed sliding claps, so it should fit most wrists without any tools. The bracelet has been cleaned in our ultrasonic bath. The watch is signed on the dial, movement, crown and clasp.
