This Junghans Process Time Meter 1/10th second stopwatch has a unique to our knowledge layout, and 60 minute counters.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Stop watches are difficult to date, as they were often in production unchanged for many years. However, in this case we have three good pieces of dating information. The movement started production in 1962, so the watch can not be older than that. Later watches had a different logo, and MADE IN GERMANY on the dial – this dial just say FOREIGN, which was common on German products post World War 2 to stop customers being deterred. And, inside the case back is a sticker saying 11/65 – this could be a quality control mark when new, a calibration date or a service mark – while it is not absolute it is likely this stopwatch is no newer than 1965
CONDITION
The clue is in the name – a Process Time Meter would have likely been used in manufacturing to improve time management and make efficiencies. Sadly no sexy link to motor racing or the military that can be made, but that helps keep the price down too. The movement is the 7 jewel Junghans 628/2, manually wound and that can count to an hour in 10th of a second increments. The 1/10th counter is a good solution – 2/3rds of it is shielded and only the numbers 0-9 show, and a three pronged hand turns so only one hand shows at a time. The video may explain this easier than words. The case is chrome plated, and in good order, and a clear sticker is on the case back with just a hint of print left. The case back also has a rubber seal, which is unusual in this pocket watch style case and a hint at quality. The dial has slight discolouration but not significant, and everything is working correctly.
