HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Without the paperwork or a hallmark it is not possible to date Excalibur watches accurately. We can see form the dates when the movement used in the watch ewas in production that it would have been likely made circa 1965.
CONDITION
Excalibur were a company employing around 500 people at their peak in Birmingham, England. They are perhaps best remembered for the expanding watch bracelets that graced many a wrist in the 50’s, 60’s and later. But they also made watches too, albeit they always used a third party movement and were never in house. Nothing at all wrong with that, and it now makes spares and servicing cheaper in the future. This watch has a decent specification – all stainless steel case, with screw down case back. Inside is the 17 jewel FHF 96 movement, with Incabloc shock protection on the balance. It is more of a workhorse movement than a highly finished item, but it is working well. The acrylic crystal has a very small crack at five, and the dial has a couple of spots, but this is a very affordable watch with a Swiss movement, so compromises should be allowed. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
