An ultra slim, manual wind solid gold Patek Philippe is always going to put a smile on our faces.  Model reference 3503.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

An Extract from the Archives would be available from Patek Philippe to get an accurate date of sale, but we do know already that model reference 3503 was first launched in 1963.  We also have sold a similar watch with the extract from 1963 where the serial number was lower than this watch by about 5,000.  We are using this data to estimate this watch was made circa 1964.

CONDITION

Patek Philippe are not the oldest watchmakers in the world, but they are widely considered as some of the very best.  It is no accident that 15 of the 25 most expensive watches ever sold at auction were made by Patek Philippe.  Reference 3503 may not be a super complication, but it is still a great example of fine watch making.  The case is naturally 18k gold, and notably thin.  The watch can be so slender as it incorporates their calibre 175 hand winding movement.  This 18 jewel movement has the Geneva Seal, showing it was made within the canton of Geneva to a high standard (even by Swiss watch making standards).  Those high standards are continued on the dial, which has the sigma mark (σ) to indicate the highest quality materials were used in production here too (usually gold for the hour markers and hands).   This could mean the dial was replaced in the 1970’s during a service, as sigma dials didn’t really start until 1970.  The dial does have a few marks, as shown without the glass for clarity.  The crown is a signed original but the buckle is a modern gold plated aftermarket one.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

This watch has been checked against the Watch Register and has not been reported as lost, stolen or implicated in fraud, and a copy of that certificate will also be included.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
