The Girard-Perregaux Damier was a direct competitor to the similar Zenith Respirator of the era.  Model reference 7427 A.

We have a 1964 advert that features a similar Damier, albeit gold plated, but we have no reason to think that this watch wasn’t from the same period.  It is not possible to date Girard-Perregaux watches via serial numbers to the best of of our knowledge.

Founded in 1791, Girard-Perregaux are one of the older watch companies.  Their current range includes a rectangular cased watch too, but the steel version is $14,500.    This older watch is not as high spec’ as the new one, but it is thinner and unarguably better value for money.

The Damier has the rectangular case and the dial patterned with rectangles of the same proportions.  The dial is original and quite clean, but you can see some brown spots at the edges – this is between the crystal and the case.  We have photographed the dial without the case to show this.  The manual wind movement has seventeen jewels and is working well.  The slim movement helps keep the overall height of the watch down.  The two piece steel case is good and the crystal has been polished to remove most scratches.  The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.

This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.

Please see the HD video for more detail.  All photos and videos are part of the description and are of the actual watch unless mentioned.  We do not photoshop any pictures, and the images are copyright of and should not be used without permission.

From 1st September 2021 we will be planting a tree for every watch we sell, working with the International Tree Foundation (Est 1922) to make this business positive on carbon.  By buying anything pre owned you are effectively reusing what already exists, but this takes it further and makes us feel good.
