Oriosa may not be a name that many people know, but the movement inside is the Wehrmachtswerk manual wind AS1130 – a piece of quality!
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Oriosa were founded in 1927, but the movement used in this watch was in production between 1955 and 1970. This watch could have been made at any time during that period, so we have just opted for a mid point and selected circa 1963 as a likely production date – but it could be a few years out either way.
CONDITION
Wehrmachtswerk movements were simply the same type as used by some German military watches, and this was was not issued to the West or East German military. For all we know it was never in Germany at all, but the signal that this movement was used is a very good sign for collectors. Oriosa didn’t cut corners elsewhere either – the case is all stainless steel, and it has a screw down case back labelled waterproof (never get vintage watches wet!). The dial is very clean, with very clean tritium lume on the hands and dial. That 17 jewel manual wind AS1130 movement has sub seconds and has a copper finish, much like most Omega’s of the day, and it is working well. The green suede leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour or style if preferred.
