HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
This watch has an in house movement, calibre 113, that was launched in 1961. The dial is also marked Foreign rather than Made in Germany, which started to change more as the 1960’s went on. Bifora were one of the man companies that struggled with the Quartz Crisis of the 1970’s, but relaunched in 2014.
CONDITION
Having an ‘In House’ movement, designed solely for your own use, is often sited as the difference between a watch company and a Manufacturer. It shows you have the know how and skills to make most components is used by modern brands to justify the expense of the watch. This watch has the 17 jewel version, with shock protection, and it is all working well. The case is a three piece design and was originally marked water protected, and it is gold plated to 20 microns (10 microns was more normal). The case has stood up very well and shows minimal wear. The dial has some damage around the very edge, but the centre of the dial is nice. There are some marks around both the 6 and 9 indices. The crystal is okay, with a couple of small marks. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
