The Enicar Ultrasonic is a Swiss watch with an in house movement that is great value for money. Model reference 100/184.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
While we can not date this watch with 100% accuracy, we do know the movement was being produced circa 1960. Enicar trademarked the term Ultrasonic in 1954, and stopped using it around 1965. The logo used on the dial here with the separate Saturn was used from the early sixties to the beginning of the seventies. With all that evidence combined we think this watch was made circa 1961.
CONDITION
Calibre 1010 was an in house movement that was unique to Enicar. It has a high year count for manual wind movement at 25 jewels – 17 or even 15 is fine but Enicar was clearly trying to impress. That movement is working well, and powered by the original signed crown. The case back screws down and has fine engraving which has not worn off. It also has tool marks from the back being opened in the past (TIP – always try a rubber ball first to remove case backs – if it slips it will not damage the watch). The Ultrasonic mentioned on the dial is a way of cleaning components, and we use our ultrasonic bath to clean bracelets now, but it must have been quite novel in the 60’s to make Enicar call the watch Ultrasonic. The dial is The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
