HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Royce were founded in 1930 by Sylvan Kocher, and that stamp is on the inside of the case back (showing the case and dial were always designed to be together.) The movement in this watch was in production for a very long time between 1937 and 1970, and this watch has the later shock protection and doesn’t have the 3 minute markers on the chrono minute counter that many (not all) earlier chronographs had. There seem very few adverts from the period, and none featuring chronographs that we could fine. So we are going to have to give a vague circa 1960 attribution to this watch.
CONDITION
Chronograph watches are expensive to service, as they use many more parts than a standard watch and take longer to clean and rebuild. For the lucky buyer this watch has just been fully serviced, so that big bill should not need doing again for a long time. The Landeron 248 is now of course working perfectly. The silver dial is original, with a telemetre scale on the outside still showing. The stainless steel case has a few marks, as does the crystal, but they are not bad. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
