A 4x signed Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic men’s automatic watch with their in house movement.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
Information on Girard-Perregaux is limited, but we do know this movement was introduced in 1957. We also have an advert in a book on Girard-Perregaux for the 39 jewel version of this movement, but the same or very similar case design which was published in 1960.
CONDITION
As information is scant on certain periods of Girard-Perregaux’s history, you do have to watch for fakes. Some genuine watches used off the shelf movements from AS and ETA, so fakers use similar watches and print a new dial. However, this watch has the name engraved on the in house movement, but is also signed on the case back, crown and dial so we have full confidence it is a genuine watch. This watch uses the in house Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic calibre 22, a 17 jewel automatic which is running nicely. It has a calendar feature, but no quick set facility, and it has a magnifier set under the crystal so it is smooth on the top. The case was originally gold capped, but this has been removed from most of the case and you can just see a trace of gold on the back of the case and between the lugs. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
