The first DS model ever launched, this manual Certina DS is very wearable and collectible. Model reference 5101 013
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
The earliest DS models available to buy came out in 1959, and these didn’t have the now synonymous Turtle engraved case back that followed shortly after. In late 1960 Certina went with a new movement, Calibre 25-66, so this watch is highly likely to have been made in 1960.
CONDITION
The Certina DS (DS stands for double security, given that the unique case design was both water and shock proof) is one of the few model lines designed in the 1950’s that is still the mainstay of the manufacturers range. The case is all stainless steel, and has nice curved bombe lugs, and has not been polished. The light champagne dial is also unrestored and clean, and the signed crown is original and correct too. In fact, there is little to fault with this watch. The in house movement is the calibre 25-36, which is keeping good time. The acrylic crystal has been polished to remove light scratches, and the leather red strap is new (this can be swapped for another colour if preferred.) The 36mm case size is very large for the day, and wears perfectly today.
This watch will be supplied with our branded presentation box and our Certificate of Authenticity.
