Bentima were the upmarket or premium brand for Oris back in the day.  This Star is a nice clean example.

HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?

Judging from the styling and the movement production dates we estimate this watch was made circa 1960.  No more accurate dating method that we are aware of exists for these watches.  Bentima were founded in 1924.

CONDITION

The case is thin, allowing this watch to slip under a shirt cuff with ease.  The gold plating shows some wear on the tips of the lugs, but it is not bad and hardly visible with the naked eye.  The dial has a few small marks, but again for the age of the watch it is pretty good.  The hands are straight and true.  The movement is a 17 jewel AS1526, which is winding, setting and running well.  The unsigned bracelet is rolled gold, which is far thicker than gold plated (Rolled gold has to be 5% minimum of the weight).  The clasp on the bracelet is sprung, allowing for comfort throughout the day as your wrist expands.

If you want a lesson in marketing, then the cheaper pin pallet Oris watches are now worth more than their upmarket Bentima cousins.  Everyone has now heard of Oris, whereas not so many people know Bentima, so fewer people desire a Bentima, so prices are less.
