Made by Oris, this Barrington London men’s watch was designed to be waterproof and shock resistant.
HOW DO WE DATE THIS WATCH?
It has been difficult to research this brand, as a company selling quality watch winders is also called Barrington and all the results head to them. But the movement used was made circa 1960, which fits the styling too. We have a very similar looking watch from 1961 here.
CONDITION
Oris made watches for several different brands. We know they had made watches for Services, and this Barrington seems to another made to order watch. It is unclear if this Barrington was a jeweller, or the brand linked to Gruen. The case is stamped for Oris on the inside, and the 392KIF 7 jewel movement is also stamped Oris. It is a pin pallet movement, not the higher quality swiss lever, so this combined with the chromed case points to this being a watch sold at a lower price point when new. The dial is good, with a matte finish and blued lume hands it does have a military look to it. It clearly has been well protected by the case, which has a screw down case back and drilled lugs. For a chromed case the condition is good, and you can not see any brassing where the chrome has worn at all save for the very tip of the lugs, and only then with a loupe. The leather strap is new, and could be swapped for a different colour if preferred.
